From IMDEA Nanociencia, we wanted to make sure that you, next nano-Nobel laureates, understand the importance of basic scientific research, since it’s the motor that drives progress and impels society forward!
After so much time spent studying, spending long nights awake to learn about the discoveries of scientists who changed the world, such as Newton, Einstein, Rosalind Franklin, Marie Curie...You finally made it! You now have the opportunity to work in a lab of your own!
For the next hour, you will take part in an amazing journey to research, understand, and develop new technologies using artificial photosystems. With proteins, composed of more than 20 building blocks called amino acids, and chromophores, photoactive molecules with easily tunable properties, the potential that these systems bring is yet to be fathomed: your imagination is the limit. Who knows what you will be able to generate with such interesting components? Now, let your NanoQuest begin!
Each of you will be assigned a different scientific project at the beginning of your journey: this will be your main objective. How can you complete it, you ask? Well, you’ll have to learn on the Insight boxes and take notes in your Lab Notebook (see below). Put on your gloves, lab coat, and glasses, because you’re about to enter the lab!
To conduct the research, each scientist will need to get Funding from competitive sources: the Challenges! Beat your colleagues at the Challenges to get Funding Points; you will need them to generate samples at the Reactor Boxes, perform experiments at the Experiment boxes, and much more. But make sure to spend it wisely, you never know when you will need it the most!
